Wonder | La Lección de August | Raquel Palacios

If you are a parent of children between 9 and 15 years and you want to make that your child gets involved in reading but don't know which book would be good for him/her to read I totally recommend Wonder. Besides that it is a children's book with easy language, the story captivates you in a second for it has lots of humor; it delivers an amazing message. I think that sometimes we want to keep the children in a bubble where everything is nice and beautiful and "ordinary" but the world is not always like that and it is important that they learn how to deal with this and how to become a good and kind person. As you might already know August Pullman is a 10 year old boy who was born with a genetic alteration that caused that he had a different outside look. He was home schooled, but it is time for he to go to a regular school.  Even though, he is an outstanding child, not many children want to hang out with him due to his appearance, but throughout the book you can se...

The Nightingale | El Ruiseñor por Kristin Hannah

English and Spanish review.  When the world around you changes you can't keep on being the same person. That's what happened to Isabelle and Vianne Muriac in 1939. This historic novel, is not like most we've read about World War II; it shows up other victims, heroes and how they managed to survive.  A girl power story with a true feminist as a protagonist. You won't even feel time passing by while reading.  "In love we find out who we wabt to be. In war we fond out who we are."  . .

La Ciudad de la Alegría | The City of Joy by Dominique Lapierre

Printed Book or E-book?

S o this weekend I made a survey on Instagram (the_breakbook) to find out which one of these two was more popular. The results were kind of obvious, the major part of the surveyed people preferred a printed book over an e-book (70%-30%.) I assume that this is because most of my followers are avid readers and they find reading as well as I do a complete experience, that includes almost all senses, not only the sight but the touch, the smell and the sound. It is not the same to read a traditional book than to read an e-book; for instance while you read a physical book you touch it, and can smell the pages, which have different smells, depending on which type of paper has been used, the time stored, etc...  But, it has a counterpart. For instance, the huge amount of resources needed to produce and publish one book. As well as the storage space you must have to save all of the books you've read and finally the amount of trash they produce. I don's know if you do the same thing ...

The Help | Criadas y Señoras | Kathryn Stockett

Imagen
W hen in 1962 in Jackson Mississippi three radically different women collide, the story starts.  Skeeter a white girl who belongs to one of the most wealthiest and important families of Jackson; Aibileen Clark a maid since teenager, and a good woman who was used to look to the floor and obbey; and her friend Minny Jackson another maid, also a good woman but she was rebel, and never holding her tongue.  These three women, despite all the differences between them, also have a lot of similarities such as self love, the idea that women can do the same things that men do, and the belief that no matter the skin color, we are all people.  These similarities are those that join them to work on a project that would see the light to question the old conceived ideas of racism.  While Skeeter is the representation of  a non racist women who loved so much her nanny Constantine that prevented her to have hateful feelings for black people; as well as  almost a feminis...

Voces de Chernóbil | Voices of Chernobyl by Svetlana Alexievich
